Steve is the founding Principal of the firm.
Steve has in excess of 23 years’ experience in the areas of employment, industrial relations, occupational health and safety, sports law/disputes, statutory workers’ compensation and coronial law.
His clients appreciate having access to an experienced lawyer for all their needs in these areas of law.
Steve is known for not only his much sought-after technical ability but also for his strategic no nonsense approach to resolving disputes.

Tim Balaam, Special Counsel
Tim was admitted as a solicitor in Queensland in 1988.
He has practiced predominantly in Defendant personal injury claims, including workers’ compensation, CTP claims and public liability claims.
Tim provides a range of legal services to insurers, self-insurers and employers. He is a competent advocate and experienced negotiator and represents clients in alternative dispute resolution processes including mediations and settlement conferences.
He is very analytical in his approach to claims. He investigates claims thoroughly and ensures that all necessary evidence is gathered to enable him to strongly advocate his client’s case at conference or mediation.
Tim provides clients with clear strategic advice which is tempered by pragmatism. He appreciates the need to try to resolve claims expeditiously in order to limit both damages and costs. However, he is not afraid to defend a matter at trial. In the past 10 years, two of the claims handled by Tim which were successfully defended at trial, are extremely significant cases in the workers’ compensation law area.
At Gifford Legal, Tim is predominantly handling statutory and common law workers’ compensation claims as well as public liability claims.

Natasha Vigor, Solicitor
Natasha is a dynamic and results-driven employment lawyer with eight years of experience in industrial and employee relations across the public and private sectors. Throughout her career she has gained expertise in all facets of employment law, including discrimination, harassment, unlawful termination, wage and hour disputes, and employment contracts.

Martin Bock, Paralegal
Martin is an experienced industrial relations practitioner with over 30 years’ experience working in employee relations in Australia and the UK. Martin studied Economics and Industrial Relations through a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Queensland and completed his Graduate Diploma in Employment Law in 1998 through UQ.
Martin has worked in both the private and public sector advocating for both Employers and Employees to navigate complicated workplace legislation and regulations to resolve disputes. He is a skilled negotiator with extensive experience engaging with unions and employer groups to design, draft and settle workplace agreements, including Enterprise Agreements for small – medium sized businesses.
